At Otley Golf Club, a ‘Rabbit’ is any male member with a WHS handicap of 15 or above. The term has been around for more than 100 years, though the exact origins are unclear. What we do know is that most club golfers fall into this category, making the Rabbits section one of the most active and inclusive groups in the club.
Otley Golf Club is proudly affiliated with the Yorkshire Rabbits Golf Association (YRGA) and is part of the Harrogate Area Rabbits Golf Association (HARGA). The YRGA represents over 100 clubs across Yorkshire.
We aim to enhance the golfing experience of our Rabbit members by organising a wide range of events throughout the season – both at Otley and at other YRGA-affiliated clubs. These include a mix of friendly matches, competitions, and social events.
Each year, Otley Rabbits take part in over 20 fixtures against other local clubs, usually fielding a 12-man team. Teams are rotated regularly to give as many members as possible the chance to play. These fixtures are a brilliant way to enjoy other courses and meet fellow golfers in a friendly, sociable setting.
In addition to external fixtures, we also host a variety of internal trophy competitions, open days, exchange days, and social events throughout the year.
Details of upcoming fixtures and events are displayed on the Rabbits Notice Board in the Gents’ Locker Room a few weeks in advance. To take part, simply add your name to the sign-up sheet.
